A railway station away from the road and the city. A quiet place and filled with a certain poetry. It seems unusual and abandoned for a long time but it is not the case to believe the log of the station master found in one of the rooms. It records the passage of a train for Lusaka a few days ago.
Mon tendon d’Achille recommence à me faire mal.
My Achilles tendon is hurting again. I have to stop cycling, as fast as possible. But we still have at least 700 km to the capital, Lusaka. All we have to do is hitchhike with the many trucks passing on the north road . We do business with Tanzanian truckers. Initially very stingy in words and rather rustic nature we do not have much opportunity to communicate with them. Especially since they speak almost only Swahili. But as time passes, they prove very kind and warm. The travel, sitting on the bunk at the back, will be interminable. We have to sleep on the road, late at night. The two truckers let us sleep inside the cabin. We share a space, more than, reduced with another African traveler. Although it is cold, although we sleep tight, uncomfortable and beset by mosquitoes, we have nothing to envy to our two drivers who will spend the night on a mat on the ground outside, at the foot of the truck. We will live with them the innumerable and endless roadblocks and road checks often released for a little money.

When the Zambezi river, which is one kilometer wide, is about to throw itself 100 meters high.
Maybe the best view we have of Victoria Falls. Indeed, at the end of the rainy season, they are at their maximum in volume of water. This produces
huge clouds of water vapor which often completely mask this aquatic monster. In some places, on the bridges approaching the waterfalls, we found ourselves completely soaked in the space of a minute, taken in a tropical intense and thick rain which are nothing but the splash of the gigantic waterfall.
Trying to dry a little in the sun, after being copiously watered by the water clouds of the waterfall. We are 100 meters lower, at the foot of the falls. The place is called the „Boiling Pot“, where contradictory currents shake the tumultuous waters of the Zambezi, which is „recovering“ from its vertiginous fall.

This railway line has never been completed, but it still operates between Gabarone in Botswana and Dar-es-Salam in Tanzania. This bridge also serves many truck crossings between the two countries. Only details that reminds that this bridge is old, a sign at the entrance of the construction stating „not more than one truck at a time in the middle of the viaduct“ !!!
Last night in Zambia. We have, in Lusaka and Livingstone, met again Richard, the Swedish cyclist met the first time, in Tanzania. He makes the road with us for a day. Tomorrow our paths will separate again and, this time, for good because he goes to Namibia and then finish his journey in South Africa to Capetown before flying back to Sweden. We are going to travel completely opposite since we leave towards the east, Botswana (towards the south) then Zimbabwe and Mozambique. We installed our tents in a building under construction. We share the premises with the construction workers having their dormitory, as well as a noisy flock of nocturnal goats.
Short crossing of the Zambezi River at the city of Kazungula. This is the border crossing between Zambia and Botswana. We are at the exact intersection of the borders of 4 countries, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe. The Chinese, tireless highway builders throughout Africa we have crossed, are completing a bridge at this „strategic“ location. But by the way, how can the young man, in the foreground, endure such a coat by this late morning heat ?? !!
